Surviving as a Teen
Discussion, Part 2

Open: What is peer pressure?

Discussion

  • Why do you think people want to be just like everyone else so much?
  • How does knowing the Bible help you survive the attacks of peer pressure?
  • Why is it so important to have godly friends around you?
  • What are some things you can do to better know the times we live in?
  • Knowing your enemy is good, but meditating on the devil too much won't help you win against peer pressure. How do you find that balance between ignoring the devil and giving him too much focus?
  • How do you feel about being different? Do you like it, or do you wish we didn't have to be so different as Christians?
  • What does it mean to be planted in your convictions?

Cross-References: 1 Peter 2:9, 1 Corinthians 3:19, 1 Corinthians 16:13, James 4:7

Reflect:

  • Are you the kind of person who wants to go along with the crowd, or the kind that more easily wants to do your own thing? Does this make it easier or harder to resist peer pressure?
  • What sorts of things do you feel pressured to do that you know are wrong? What steps are you going to take to make sure you don't give in?
  • Who are some godly friends you can start hanging around with more often, to help you in the fight against peer pressure?

Prayer:

  • Pray for wisdom to know right from wrong and strength so you can stand against peer pressure.
  • Pray that God would open your eyes to see the devil's schemes, so you can resist.
  • Ask God to surround you with godly friends to encourage you in your walk.
  • If you've given in to peer pressure, take some time and repent before God and accept the forgiveness He gives in Jesus.

Memory Verse: For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. – 2 Timothy 1:7
