Nobody Likes Me – Surviving Rejection

Surviving as a Teen

Discussion, Part 4

Open: What is rejection?  What does it mean to be rejected?

Discussion

  • Should somebody who loves God never be rejected?
  • How does denying yourself help you survive rejection?
  • How do you feel knowing that God won’t ever reject you?
  • What can you do, practically speaking, to take shelter in God?
  • Why do you think we’re so scared to be rejected by people?
  • When people are scared they’ll be rejected, they tend to make excuses for why they don’t have to obey God.  What excuses have you heard?
  • Why is rejection a normal fact of life?
  • How does opening up and loving people bring in the possibility for being rejected and hurt?
  • Why is it hard to keep going after getting rejected?
  • How could getting rejected crush a person for life?

Cross-References: Luke 6:22, Psalm 30:1, Matthew 12:21, Romans 15:13

Reflect:

  • Have you ever been rejected because of God?
  • Have you been rejected for other things?
  • What have you done to make sure rejection doesn’t have an effect on you?
  • Even though God will never reject you, sometimes it can feel like He has.  Have you ever felt rejected by God?

Prayer:

  • If you’ve let rejection into your heart, repent and ask God for strength to fight against it.
  • Pray for each other to be strong and bold for God and not give in to rejection.
  • Pray that you would each be a source of encouragement to others and not a source of rejection.

Memory Verse: Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. – Matthew 5:11
